On muck dives, underwater photographers find rare <a href=\"\/nudibranchs\">nudibranchs<\/a>, juvenile fish, <a href=\"\/frogfish\">frogfish<\/a>, and strange critters that are found no where else. And they then spend a long time photographing them. For some people, a muck dive is their favorite place to practice underwater photography.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Muck dive sites often have large patches of sand, often rich volcanic black sand, with small patches of life here and there. But these patches are rich in critters, such as seahorses, frogfish, and cuttlefish. In the sand one can often find gobies, mantis shrimp, octopus and more.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Muck Diving Preparation<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Learn the critters in the area. Develop a <a href=\"\/critter-list\">critter list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Find a good dive guide.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Have the right <a href=\"\/underwater-photography-dive-equipment\">dive equipment<\/a> &#8211; a large tank full of nitrox is the best, with stiff fins that don&#8217;t silt up the area when you kick<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Plan to dive the sites during the day and night for different opportunities. Some people claim they&#8217;ve been taken.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"\/bali-muck-diving\" target=\"_blank\">Bali, Indonesia<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"\/diving-sipadan\">Mabul, Borneo<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Good muck diving in Mabul and Kapalai to compliment the big fish of Sipadan<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"\/saint-vincent\">St Vincent<\/a>, Caribbean<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>This is the place for critters in the Caribbean<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"\/diving-blue-heron-bridge\">Blue Heron Bridge, Florida&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Ulua Beach, Maui, Hawaii (it&#8217;s hard to choose just one, but it&#8217;s definitely one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/imjesstraveling.com\/best-beaches-maui\/\">best beaches in Hawaii<\/a> for muck diving in our opinion)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Night dives here always turn up something different<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"\/papua-new-guinea-diving\">Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>The original place of muck-diving! Practice proper <a href=\"\/underwater-photography-dive-etiquette\">dive etiquette<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Beware of backscatter.
