Let&#8217;s look at some examples:<\/p>\n<p><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>&#8211; Diagonal subject, parallel to the camera<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-16920\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uwphotographyguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/479401360_4cQsH-S.jpg\" align=\"top\" width=\"400\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uwphotographyguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/479401360_4cQsH-S.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.uwphotographyguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/479401360_4cQsH-S-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Long fish or shrimp make great diagonal lines in photos. This is a &#8220;2-D&#8221; diagonal composition, because the entire subject is in focus. Robust ghost pipefish, <a href=\"\/anilao-diving\">Anilao<\/a>, Phillipines.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Diagonal subject, three dimensional underwater compostion<\/h3>\n<p>This can be a difficult composition to attain, but it is one of the most dramatic. The entire body of the subject is placed from one lower corner to the opposite diagonal corner. Different depth of fields will give different results. This composition works great for macro &amp; <a href=\"\/supermacro-underwater-photography\">supermacro<\/a>, especially for long subjects such as shrimp, pipefish, etc. Getting the subject perfectly placed can take time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-16921\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uwphotographyguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/567016001_ghgBf-S.jpg\" alt=\"flutemouth, bali\" align=\"top\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uwphotographyguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/567016001_ghgBf-S.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.uwphotographyguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/567016001_ghgBf-S-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Flutemouth, taken in <a href=\"\/bali-diving-report\">Bali<\/a>. You must carefully compose until the rear of the subject is placed in the upper corner, out of focus. Try to get a blue background with these colors if you can.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Green &#8211; green is the color of nature. Backgrounds look great with green in them.&nbsp;Green also works well with red, pink, or orange.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Use <strong>complimentary colors<\/strong>.
